This blog is closing and I am moving to ‘Pranav on .NET’

Diversion to Pranav on .NET

I will be shutting-down this blog and moving to my new space Pranav on .NET where I will continue blogging not only about VSTO but also about cutting edge topics like Metro Apps, Windows Phone Apps, Azure etc. Lot to learn and implement. Actually I thought to have an exclusive space for me where I can write about the anything that I like. So bought some space and named it as Pranav on .NET. I hope I will have some good time there. Its been quite some time I am setting up the environment and blogging there. That’s the reason for no blog posts since few months here. But, its interesting to note that many people are visiting and commenting on the posts here. So I have migrate all the posts in this blog to my new website –

Hope you will enjoy my new home like Easy VSTO..!

A lap around UG Meet

Event started few minutes before the scheduled time as more than expected number of attendees gathered at the venue.
Sidharth Sehgal delivered a session on Windows Phone 7 Application Development and has covered overview of mobile appication development and a couple of demos for newbies.
After this, Praveen Saxena gave a session on ASP.NET MVC. He covered with the topics – MVC Architecture, advantages of using MVC with ASP.NET, where to use it and the best practices.
Had good time with Phani, Harish and Abhijit.
Met a lot of developer acquaintances. Community events are good for getting in touch with people having same thoughts and ideas. Its really nice to meet people with same itch 😉

Hope HUG conducts such ‘quality’ sessions in the future too!

Changing the default language in Visual Studio

You might have came across a situation where you set the default version of Visual Studio to some language mistakenly or you want to change it because of some reason. Here is the solution for it.

It might be looking silly. But for those who are in need. It mean a lot, I suppose.

There are two ways of doing this.

  1. Choose Tools -> Import and Export Settings…
  2. Select Reset All Settings and click Next
  3. Select whether you would like to save the current settings (I would say not here) and click Next
  4. Select the settings you want to use(change the language to C#) and click Finish

But, this is not advisable if there are any environmental settings that are set in the VS. In this case, you can use the following approach.

Modifying CurrentSettings.vssettings file. This file can be found in My Documents\Visual Studio x\Settings\ directory.

Open CurrentSettings.vssettings in a text or XML editor, and search for DefaultProjectLanguage.

You can then change the value accordingly. Here are the two options for VB or C#.

Save the file, and once you open Visual Studio, you’re set.

Hope this helps!

  1. Choose Tools -> Import and Export Settings...
  2. Select Reset All Settings and click Next
  3. Select whether you would like to save the current settings (I would say not here) and click Next
  4. Select the settings you want to use(change the language to C#) and click Finish
